La marque Pataugas fait ses premiers pas dans le monde de la chaussure dans les anné es 50. Issue du pays basque, Pataugas s’inspire de son hé ritage pour dessiner son tout premier modè le : «l’Authentique», largement influencé par le brodequin traditionnel, mais comportant une semelle de caoutchouc cranté e. Pour ce faire Pataugas utilisa la technique dite du “vulcanisé “ consistant à faire fondre une pâ te de caoutchouc sur un ré chaud à gaz avant d’apposer cette semelle sur la tige de la chaussure. C’est d’ailleurs de cette technique de fabrication (pâ te au gaz) qu’est issu le nom Pataugas.
